Good day…

Talking with her little buddy…

Yep, I said it. Today was a good day. I spent the afternoon with mom and she was in the best state I’ve seen in awhile. When I got there, she was up, sitting at the table eating. She’d had a few crackers, some grapes, and two glasses of juice. Earlier, half a piece of toast and part of a banana. PLUS, two Ensures.

That silly lady we know and love…

Both docs blessed d/c’ing the blood pressure meds and the beta blocker, so there should be a notable improvement in her bp. They’ll monitor it daily just in case it does shoot up higher than it should be. I doubt that will be the case, but I’ve been wrong a million times before.

If I recall correctly, she had lorazepam twice yesterday – it was a pretty bad day. Today she’d had one, and the bad imaginary people she’s been yelling at were apparently replaced by nice imaginary people with whom she was having a jolly good time! SO great seeing her laugh. Sure as hell beats the alternative.

Late this afternoon, she did have a rough spell, but when I left she looked comfortable and was falling asleep in the recliner. It was a fairly busy day for her. Emily came for lunch, then I spent the afternoon, Jess visited, Baby Nico was there, Tim was there for awhile… a lot of commotion, and she did really well.

I was afraid to say it earlier for fear of jinxing us, but I think we are good to go for Chicago. I have to be honest… I am SO looking forward to getting away from everything for a few days.  I’m extremely thankful that we can do this!

I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Remember to enjoy every moment and hug the ones you love…

Just Another Manic Monday…(or something like that)

I realized today that the definition of “good day” has changed. It used to be that a day filled with fussing and restlessness was a “bad” day. Now I’d have to say that kind of day has officially moved into “good day” territory.

Another day of yelling, though settled slightly with lorazepam every six hours. As of 7pm, she had been awake since 1am and was still extremely restless and agitated. I had to work late tonight, so I didn’t get over there, but Jess saw her for awhile this afternoon. I am praying she will be able to get a full night of sleep tonight. She needs it so badly.

I need to make a decision on the blood pressure meds for tomorrow morning… still waiting for both docs to return messages I left today.

Today on Caregivers, I decided to stick with the theme of the week. Check out the post titled Caregivers: Navigating Uncharted Pharmacological Waters.

I’ll leave you with a little trivia…. did you know that President Ronald Reagan designated November as National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month in 1983. At the time, fewer than 2 million Americans had Alzheimer’s; today, the number of people with the disease has soared to nearly 5.4 million.  (Source: The Alzheimer’s Project)

Better couple of days…

16 Friday Nov 2012

Well, after the hellish Wednesday we had, the past two days have been a bit more settled. Jess took the picture below yesterday.

We’re still debating on meds… both psych and hyper/hypotension. I’m frustrated. One doc has his opinion, the other has a different one. Things are never simple or straightforward.

House doc will be there tomorrow, so I plan to talk to him then. I am hoping we see an improvement in the ortho bp’s. As for the neurologist, he’s supposed to call me tonight or tomorrow to discuss his latest orders.
