Mama Update…

Mom had a bad night last night… so-so day today. When I arrived at 6pm, she had been sleeping for about an hour and half. She had to be exhausted; she was up pacing and hollering all night and hadn’t slept all day either. The only thing she’d had to “eat” was half of an Ensure.

She woke up after a short while and was very quiet, but peaceful and content. She has returned to staring at the ceiling with eyes full of wonder. I wish I could describe it… it’s just something you have to see. It’s been weeks since she had done this. It’s disturbing and comforting all at one time (and yes, I realize that doesn’t make sense).

I did get her to drink a glass of juice and a full Ensure, and she was dozing off as I left.

I hope tomorrow is a better day.

Drum roll, please…

… yep, you got it… another black eye. She started to fall this morning, but caught herself by grabbing a door handle. Unfortunately, she didn’t catch herself before the door handle got her in the eye. (((Sigh)))

Earlier this week, I mentioned the possibility of getting her a walker and the thought was that she would probably forget to use it. Now, though, I’m thinking it’s worth a try, and I believe Medicare will cover 100% of the cost. For whatever reason, she has become so unsteady on her feet. Wouldn’t it be a nightmare if she fell and broke a hip – heaven forbid…

It’s times like this that I remind myself how blessed we are to have Eason House. I can’t imagine what we would be dealing with if she was in a larger, traditional setting.

Today on Caregivers…

Have you ever been going about your day, minding your business… Something unexpected happens, and suddenly you find your emotions have gotten the best of you?  I had that very experience yesterday and wrote about it in Caregivers 101: The Emotional “Gotcha”.
