Our friend, Brenda Bouchard, has been busy since last summer attending every New Hampshire Town Hall she could get to. She has addressed 13 of the 2016 presidential candidates, asking how they plan to attack Alzheimer’s if they’re elected (click here for clips of some of those town hall meetings).

Bouchard was recently asked to introduce Hillary Clinton at a Portsmouth, NH, town hall. Clinton then opened the meeting by discussing her proposed plan to end Alzheimer’s by 2025.

Regardless of political persuasion, I think all of us touched by this horrific disease can agree – how extraordinary to see this issue on the national stage during an election year!

Thank you, Brenda, for your significant role in sparking the conversation and keeping it going! You’re an inspiring example of the difference one person can make!

New Hampshire resident, Brenda Bouchard, has a full plate and then some! She cares for her husband who is living with younger onset Alzheimer’s, as well as her 89-year-old-mother who also has Alzheimer’s.

All of this, yet she’s managing to find time to attend town halls in her state – and she isn’t just there to observe! To date, Brenda has been called on to ask 11 candidates about their plans regarding the Alzheimer’s crisis.

If you’ve missed the previous posts, click here to see all of them. Brenda has asked her question of Clinton, Kasich, Santorum, Bush, Sanders, Trump, Paul, Walker, and Rubio. In this post, you’ll see and hear her address Carly Fiorina and Ben Carson.

Take a look and draw your own conclusions.

Walker and Rubio on Alzheimer’s

New Hampshire caregiver, Brenda Bouchard, recently attended the town hall meetings of Scott Walker and Marco Rubio. As with the other candidates visiting her state, she asked Walker and Rubio what they plan to do to ensure Alzheimer’s gets the attention and funding it needs.

I thought Rubio was sincere and impressive. Subtle things like pointing out that we treat the symptoms, but have no way to treat the disease itself, separating the two threads (support for today’s caregivers/families + research for tomorrow), noting this isn’t just about Alzheimer’s, but all types of dementia, and the comparison to HIV/AIDS.

Of all the videos we’ve seen (THANK YOU, Brenda!), I think Rubio and Clinton have clearly demonstrated the deepest understanding of the issue.

Take a look at the clips below, and see what you think.

To hear how the other candidates responded to Brenda’s question, see the following posts.

  • Kasich, Clinton, Santorum
  • Bush and Sanders
  • Trump and Paul
