The fine folks at USAgainstAlzheimer’s recently hosted an outstanding Activists Network call on two impending clinical trials. We had the pleasure of hearing directly from Dr. Suzanne Craft, Professor of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine at Wake Forest.

Dr. Craft is leading the SNIFF study, which is currently enrolling participants at research centers around the country. In addition, we learned more about the A4 trial, also getting underway. If you’d like to learn more, take a look at the follow up post I wrote for the USA2 by2020 blog: Exciting News on the Research Front.

Hope for the future.

Two major Alzheimer’s clinical trials will soon begin enrolling participants — the Insulin Study (also know as SNIFF) and the so-called A-4 Trial.

Join USAgainstAlzheimer’s on Thursday, February 6 from 12-1pm ET for the next Activists Network conference call to hear Dr. Suzanne Craft of Wake Forest Medical School, who is the director of the Insulin Study (SNIFF). This study will examine whether a type of insulin, when administered as a nasal spray, improves memory in adults with a mild memory impairment or mild Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Craft will explain SNIFF and answer your general trial questions, including who is eligible, study locations and how to sign up. Enrollment is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks.

To register for this call please go to: http://actions.usagainstalzheimers.org/p/salsa/web/common/public/signup?signup_page_KEY=8587.

Ginny Biggar at USAgainstAlzheimer’s can answer any questions you have. Her email is vbiggar[at]usagainstalzheimers.org.

graph-2011_national_institutes_of_healthDid you know….

The National Institutes of Health spends over $6 billion a year on cancer research, over $4 billion on heart disease research and over $3 billion on HIV/AIDS research. But it spends only $480 million on Alzheimer’s research. While passage of the recent omnibus bill will add another $100 million, we are still well below where we need to be.

President Obama made broad supportive comments regarding the nation’s priorities in innovation and federally-funded research in his State of the Union address last night, but we are disappointed that he did not take the opportunity to advance America’s internationally-recognized leadership in the global fight against Alzheimer’s.

PLEASE lend your voice. This is one fight we cannot afford to lose. Urge President Obama to make this crucial investment by clicking this link ->  Lend Your Voice
