Pet Therapy 101

TuckerMost pet lovers will tell you that they would often rather spend time with their pets than many of the people they have to deal with day in and day out. Our pets are our hearts, aren’t they? Tucker has been my saving grace many times in the past five months… I sit and cry, and he just cuddles up next to me, looking at me with those sad, “what can I do to help, mommy?” eyes.

Little does he know how much he helps just by being such a constant in my life…  And, I don’t have to worry that he’ll judge me for being “too emotional” or “not strong enough.” He really doesn’t care one way or the other – no matter what, at the end of the day, he thinks I’m the best thing since sliced cheese!

Pets can also be a godsend for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients as discussed in my latest post for Alzheimers.net, How Can Pets Benefit Alzheimer’s Patients? Take a look and leave a comment to share your own experiences and tips!

I would love it if you would take just a second to click over to USAgainstAlzheimer’s and complete this super quick survey. In just 3 minutes, you’ll be helping to collect valuable data, and a $1 donation will be made to USAgainstAlzheimer’s for each survey completed! Tell your friends, too!

Next, I’d like to share information regarding an important upcoming event open to everyone. On May 22 (next week), at 2pm (ET), George Vradenburg, founder of USAgainstAlzheimer’s will host a conference call to discuss the top issues we face in the fight against ALZ. To sign up, simply click here –> Register for the May 22 call.

Last, but not least, remember to check out A Place For Mom‘s newest blog offering, the Alzheimer’s Resource Blog. My current article takes a look at the concept of the “long goodbye.” How does the ongoing grief felt throughout a loved one’s illness relate to the grief experienced with the final loss. The answer might surprise you…
